Sunglass Hut, owned by the Luxottica Group, has tapped Sarah Jessica Parker to create an exclusive new sunglass shape, a collaboration with her SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker line, to be sold at the eyewear retailer.

“We were working off an old and beloved pair of glasses no longer produced,” Parker said of the style she created that takes it’s cue from a look she frequently wore in the Nineties. The idea, she said, was “to create a large frame that was inspired by the past but felt modern and wearable for many.”

The actress and businesswoman has been in the entertainment industry for decades, but it is her turn as Carrie Bradshaw on the HBO series “Sex and the City” that skyrocketed her name and gave her a ton of fashion industry street cred, something she has parlayed into other fashion collaborations as well as her own eponymous contemporary-priced shoe and accessory line, SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker. This new venture with Sunglass Hut is her foray into the eyewear category with a retailer.

The codesigned frame uses a nylon fiber boning creating an oversize shield-like shape with the “SJP” logo at the temple, and will be available in five different colorways.

The eyewear’s packaging is a nod to her namesake shoe collection, using unique packaging that resembles the shoeboxes and pouches found in the actress’ stores.

“For me, it’s every day,” she explained when asked about how sunglasses fit into a person’s personal style. “I never leave the house without sunglasses. Regardless of how fierce the sun is or isn’t. I rely on them. I’m thoughtful about the choice and typically wear frames that feel more timeless and don’t speak to any specific decade or trend. My sunglasses always suit whatever I’m wearing.

“It was very important to me when creating this collection that they would be an accessory I would want to wear all the time, no matter the occasion,” she added.

The pairs retail for $159, and launch on Oct. 3 at Sunglass Hut stores worldwide, sunglasshut.com, and at SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker New York boutiques and SJPbysarahjessicaparker.com.

To celebrate the unveiling, Sunglass Hut is hosting an intimate chat with the actress on Oct. 3 in New York.

“I owned a pair of shield-shaped sunglasses in the Nineties that I absolutely loved, and I was so sad when they were discontinued,” Parker said. “People would ask me where to buy this style and now I can happily say they are available at Sunglass Hut.”
