This fall, low-heeled booties are getting elevated above their usual status as wardrobe staples and becoming statement pieces in and of themselves. The latest crop of offerings is jazzed up in all sorts of ways, with roots in pop music and the Sixties mod look (case in point: Giannico’s plastered-with-polka-dots patent leather/suede version). Coach’s pointy-toed, studded metallic leather booties scream Carnaby Street meets New Wave, while Isabel Marant’s zebra print pony-hair and multibuckle style owes its genesis to the good ol’ days of punk rock.
