Mercedes Castillo, former creative director of accessories at Tory Burch, is stepping out on her own. Well not exactly on her own. Camuto Group, which has worked with her in the development and creative direction of Tory Burch footwear, is launching the Mercedes Castillo collection of ready-to-wear, footwear, handbags and jewelry for spring 2017.

Castillo’s footwear will retail from $300 to $600, and the handbags range from $900 to $2,000. Jewelry and rtw prices haven’t been set yet.

Castillo’s rtw, footwear, handbags and jewelry will be presented next week during the Fashion Footwear Association of New York show from Tuesday through Aug. 4.

All of the products will be manufactured by Camuto Group.

Castillo’s aesthetic is characterized by modern sculptural shapes and proportions, bold colors and ornamentation and detail. Her designs are inspired by her love of art, architecture, design and travel. Castillo was in Brazil and unavailable for comment Wednesday.

Castillo joined Burch shortly after the company was founded in 2004 and entered into a development partnership with the Camuto Group to introduce a shoe collection to the label’s rtw lines. Her role has expanded to include creative direction of all accessory lines, including handbags, small leather goods and jewelry. Her work on Burch’s shoes and accessories collections earned Tory Burch the ACE Award for Accessories Brand Launch of the Year in 2007 and the Accessory Designer of the Year Award in 2008. She has also served as creative director of contemporary brands at Camuto Group. Earlier she worked with Donna Karan International, where she was senior design director for the DKNY and Donna Karan shoe lines. She joined the company in Milan, where she had previously served as designer, men’s and women’s shoes, small leather goods and men’s leatherwear at Gianfranco Ferré.
