NEW DELHI — Making an upscale entry into the footwear market in India, Christian Louboutin’s first boutique opened this month at the Emporio mall in New Delhi.
It comes at a time when Louboutin’s Bollywood inspired range is still fresh on the shelves and its heavy embroidery strikes a chord with the Indian customer.
This is Louboutin’s 51st store, designed by New York-based design firm 212 Box. The store design features multicolored reclaimed tin from old New England buildings and a hand-blown Syrian teardrop glass chandelier. Shoes have their own white arched alcoves.
The footwear market in India continues to grow at 20 percent a year and has doubled in size to $4.05 billion over the last five years, according to industry estimates. The men’s footwear market has a larger share in terms of volume, but luxury brands have been wooing customers of both sexes with more offerings in the last few years. At Emporio mall are also stores for brands such as Jimmy Choo and Salvatore Ferragamo.
Louboutin has been focused on growth in the Middle East and Asia in the last few months, with eight stores in the Middle East and a flagship that opened in August in Dubai. There are already stores in Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore and Jakarta in Asia.
