Cole Haan is celebrating its New England heritage with the launch of a Made in Maine, USA Collection of footwear today.
The limited-edition collection was handmade in Lewiston, Maine, and each shoe takes at least five artisans about 30 hours of work to complete, the company said. This includes rubbing dyes directly into the leather, a multistep burnishing process and hand stitching. The shoes are also dried overnight to ensure they retain their shape and structure.
“Creating a shoe that will last a lifetime is an exceedingly personal, painstakingly accurate process from start to finish and is the very definition of American craftsmanship,” said David Maddocks, chief marketing officer and general manager of business development for Cole Haan
Six models have been produced: five for men and one for women. The men’s styles include a long wing, a short wing, a split toe and a penny. They retail for $325 to $400. The women’s pinch model retails for $325.
The shoes are available starting today on the Cole Haan web site and in its stores in the U.S. and overseas.
