Marc Fisher LTD is dialing up its cool factor, teaming with stylist Elizabeth Sulcer — known for creating head turning red-carpet looks and street style for the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid and Kim Kardashian — for a new holiday capsule collection of boots: Elizabeth Sulcer x Marc Fisher LTD.
The brand first approached Sulcer looking for a partner to develop a shoe for the Nordstrom perfect pairs program, which saw the retailer partner with 14 footwear brands to celebrate the opening of its New York flagship, but according to Sulcer the idea for something more was always in the air.
“Really from the get go, they wanted to make it bigger and make it a capsule for holiday,” she explained of her early talks with the brand, adding that they wanted a “sort of muse” to help shepherd the collection.
The result is a four-piece lineup of boot and bootie styles in 11 colorways with a distinctly glam rock vibe, an energy the stylist has become synonymous with.
“It was a bit Eighties and Nineties meets glamour while integrating my personal style into the collaboration,” she said of her inspirations. Her mood board included images of both Keith Richards and Nineties Calvin Klein ads, with the stylist pointing to a slouchy boot with a monk strap as a key style for the range.
Animal prints and suede textures played a big part, too, like a pointed-toe, cuffed bootie with a stiletto heel in zebra print, but Sulcer “didn’t want all the boots to have heels,” explaining she wanted a mix heights and included flat styles for a customer “who has a life,” she quipped.
“I like a sort of undone glamour,“ she noted. “ I wanted everything in the collection to be a little cooler and easier to wear.”
While Sulcer has built a name for herself styling campaigns for brands like Victoria’s Secret and Maybelline, this marks her first shoe collection. “I wanted it to be focused,” she explained of sticking to one type of footwear. “And really what Marc is known for is boots.”
At a time when the category has more than peaked on collaborations, Sulcer held firm, noting that she wanted to create something that would have staying power. “I’m aiming to make staples that resonate with their customer and still offer something that feels new,” she offered, explaining that she thinks the styles could “become a hero part of their [customers] wardrobe for years to come.”
Tonight, to celebrate the brand launch, Sulcer and Vogue are hosting an intimate cocktail event at Little Sister Lounge at the Moxy East Village with a host of celebrities and friends of Sulcer. Attendees will peruse the collection while enjoying light bites and cocktails and a “shoefie” station, meant to create Instagrammable moments and a ton of “likes.”
The collection goes on sale today and retails from $225 to $399 on Marcfisherfootwear.com and select department stores, with one bootie style, the “Yanila” retailing exclusively at Nordstrom and nordstrom.com.
