SHOE IN: Straight from Friday’s Dior show, Natalia Vodianova popped in to see Nicholas Kirkwood’s shoe presentation. It was the first time the Russian model had been to see his collection.
“I’ve heard so much about him and I have seen the amazing shoes he does and wanted to see what was next,” she said while viewing his somewhat Southwestern-inspired collection. “I’m already begging him to give me a pair of the silver boots with pearls.” Standing in heels with a pantsuit, she added, “I need them right now to make my look a bit more street — younger and cool.”
Unfortunately, the beauty is a size 40 and not the size 37 sample size that designers typically have in their first run. Kirkwood assured her he would try his best to accommodate. They had met once before when being introduced by Sofía Sanchez and Alex Betak in London and of course through the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton connection — Vodianova dates Antoine Arnault, son of chairman Bernard Arnault.
Kirkwood had already given a new pair of black suede sandals to Kim Kardashian, who in fact can wear a size 37. Kardashian’s attention has been a major boost for his business.
As for the Dior collection — Maria Grazia Chiuri’s first for the house — “Of course I loved it, it was so strong,” she said. But family connections aside, no preview was granted.
