In the role, Spinelli will oversee all women’s footwear design. “She has a great design sense and extensive technical knowledge,” Mellon said of the appointment.
Spinelli has previously worked as design director of Tommy Hilfiger Collection and designer for Diane von Furstenberg’s debut footwear collection. In 2005, she launched her namesake footwear line, which will now be folded into the Mellon brand.
“[Mellon] has really developed a strong infrastructure to grow Tamara Mellon into a major footwear brand, and this is something I did not have,” Spinelli said. “There is a natural synergy in our aesthetics, so I felt it was a great opportunity, both creatively and business-wise, to join the Tamara Mellon brand.”
Spinelli’s first collection for the brand will be fall 2016.
