This season, when WWD’s photographers took to the streets in Tokyo or captured the zany looks worn at Frieze London, they found that shoes were as much fun and as odd as any of the quirkiest clothes. Set high on wedges of rubber, cork, leather or even wood, all sorts of boots and sneakers were transformed into costume-like versions. Fabric flats resembled swim shoes or even bandaged feet. And brilliant colors, in little-heeled patent pumps or in wildly painted leather, eclipsed your basic black. Elevated or down-to-earth, shoes took center stage.
