GIVING BACK: The Accessories Council will host the first AC Cares event, an initiative to encourage the accessories industry to give back to the community.

This represents the first time the accessories industry has united in an effort to volunteer time to support several initiatives including 92Y’s Beads for Love, the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance and the Fair Fashion Center. The Accessories Council is encouraging 100 percent participation from its members and is also asking the accessory community to get involved.

There are several ways to participate. Among them are donating beads to make necklaces for Beads for Love at three New York Public Schools and the WIN Women’s Shelter, or volunteering at one of the four locations for a two-hour period on Nov. 29 to help children bead necklaces for their parents and caregivers. Beads must be 5- to 12-mm with a standard hole, sorted (no mixed bags of multiple beads) and sent to the Accessories Council.

AC Cares is also looking for firms to donate accessory items for the silent auction and general sale at a cocktail party/silent auction on Nov. 29 and a general sale, open to the public on Nov. 30. Both events will be held at the Glasgow Caledonian University in SoHo benefiting the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance, the Fair Fashion Center and the Accessories Council. AC Cares is also looking for volunteers at the general sale on Nov. 29 and Nov. 30. The trade association is also encouraging members to purchase tickets to the silent auction or donate money. All checks should be addressed to the Accessories Council.
