If fashion is about the unconventional, then a true fashion party is nothing without a truly unexpected guest. With just two days until the official start of New York Fashion Week, David Yurman kicked things off with a party to mark the opening of his new SoHo boutique. Among the typical slew of fashion editors and socials, Pete Wentz, bassist of pop-rock band Fall Out Boy, lingered toward the back of the room. “I guess I’m always in the pursuit of cool jewelry,” he explained of his seemingly random appearance. “I’m a fan of the brand. Maybe I’ll pick something out for my girlfriend.” Scheduling may also have had something to do with his attendance: Fall Out Boy will perform a free concert in support of the NBA All-Star game later this week. So will Wentz be making any further fashion week stops? “I would like to go to that Kanye-Adidas thing, but it’s the night of our show,” he said. “Also, it’s not like I got an invite.”
Additional guests of the evening, which benefitted New Yorkers for Children, included Cuba Gooding Jr. (another entry in the “unexpected” category), Selita Ebanks, Katrina Bowden and Mia Moretti. Yurman, along with wife Sybil, spent a majority of the evening courting Christina Hendricks. “The store feels like someone’s really beautiful home,” said the “Mad Men” actress, marveling at the decor. “It actually feels like we’re at our loft,” Sybil chimed in, with her husband quickly taking the bait. “Yes, it was the same as with designing our loft — we argued a lot,” he replied jokingly.
Hendricks later joined several attendees in some shopping of the sparkly wares on display. “I just recently moved to New York, and I was so excited that this is their second New York store, because they are such true New Yorkers,” she said. “Now that I’m becoming a New Yorker, I feel that this is a cool place to be.” She paused to try on an especially glitzy cocktail ring. Is she a frequent David Yurman customer? “I’m about to be,” she replied, taking a sip of Champagne.
