‘Music on My Mind’ necklace is a metaphor for the visual poetry of music. The links between the gems–lapis lazuli and opal–are suggestive of the brain’s structure, with neurons communicating with one another.

Chan is famous for inventing the “Wallace cut” a technique shown here, which gives off a 3D feel. Inspired by a multiple exposure he saw in a photography exhibition, Wallace Chan wondered whether the same could be achieved in a gemstone. After two and a half years of trial and error, he eventually debuted it in 1987.
