Melania Trump, the Slovenian former model and wife of real estate mogul and entrepreneur Donald Trump, wants a piece of the action.
Trump, who wed “The Donald” in 2005, is launching her own brand of costume jewelry with multichannel retailer QVC. The line, called Melania Timepieces & Jewelry, comprises costume jewelry cocktail rings made to imitate emeralds and diamonds, braided gold necklaces and cuffs and gold-tone watches inset with crystals. It will make its debut on QVC April 30 at 9 p.m.
Trump said she is looking forward to working with QVC “to bring my personal inspiration and design aesthetic to life.
“I’m proud to debut my collection of premium, affordable timepieces and jewelry, and make it available to millions of women across the country through such a fantastic partnership,” she said.
The line will be unveiled to editors tonight at an event at Trump’s New York home.
Trump, who studied architecture in college, said design is in her nature.
“My passion in design and fashion leads me to [jewelry design],” said Trump.
She said she didn’t speak with her husband’s daughter, Ivanka, who has a burgeoning fine jewelry business, before launching her own line.
Trump’s collection is divided into three parts, inspired by the locations of her homes in New York; Palm Beach, Fla., and Paris. The line retails for less than $200.
She also took inspiration from her own jewelry box in creating the collection.
“I have some of the biggest jewelry….I don’t want to name [the brands], but I have many of them,” said Trump of her personal collection, which includes a 12-carat emerald-cut Graff diamond engagement ring from her husband.
“It’s designed from my heart, from my view and from my private collection,” she said. “I didn’t look at designers out there.”
While echoing regal, high jewelry, Trump wanted the collection to be accessible to everyone from mothers to career women.
“It’s something you can wear wherever you go,” mused Trump. “For example, if you have a business meeting or if you play with your child.”
Trump said there are no imminent plans to launch other product categories under her name, but she does have ideas for apparel and accessories at the ready.
