One of the season’s biggest statements from the runways was a fresh take on the necklace. Several designers, including Givenchy (top left) and Loewe (middle), combined a dramatic pendant with a pouch just big enough for a lipstick or neatly folded bill. In fact, Valentino (bottom left) showed a compact mirror with a place to insert a lipstick paired with a small cross-body bag on the runway, signaling the strength of the mini-bag movement. Necklace bags were part of a larger downsizing trend prevalent in the market for the past few seasons. Along with necklaces that served as miniature pouches, there were tiny bags of all shapes and sizes on the runways, from Chloé’s cross-body that also can be worn as a bracelet and just big enough for keys and credit card to Coach’s dominant Dinkier bag, just big enough for a phone. That is, if you don’t have the “plus-size” version of a mobile device.
