NEW YORK – Evine Live has partnered with Handbag Designer 101 to provide an Independent Handbag Designer Award winner a live show to air in February.
The awards will be handed out on June 17 at the SVA Theatre here. There are 40 finalists in eight categories for the Ninth Annual Handbag Awards show. The winner of the Best Overall in Style and Design category is guaranteed to have a show in February. The February show is expected to be two hours long and will include other winners of Evine’s choosing.
For the Evine show, the winners will re-create the winning design at an “accessible” price point for Evine’s audience. L & Leung Group will manufacture the reimagined bags. According to Emily Blumenthal, founder of Handbag Designer 101 and the Independent Handbag Designer Awards, the original designs will be available for purchase on handbagdesigner101.com.
David Miller, Evine’s vice president of fashion, said, “New products and concepts drive our digital commerce business model and this opportunity will provide us direct access to handbag designers from all over the world.”
The bags for the Evine show will cost less than $200.
Evine will also host a one-hour show Sept. 12 on the site’s Fashion Day that will feature the 2007 handbag award winner Katherine Kwei. Also featured for the September show is Yasmena, a line started by Blumenthal in 2000.
Evine’s Miller will be one of the judges this year, along with Rebecca Minkoff and Monica Botkier, both of whom have their own handbag collections.
Finalists from the U.S. include Ellia Wang, Mandy Chang and Carmen Chen Wu. Overseas finalists include Alexa Jay by Indre Jakumaite from the U.K. and Carla Lopez by Emilia Arzua and Carla Lopez of Spain.
