PARIS — As Swiss watchmakers continue to adapt to a shifting landscape, industry heavyweight LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton said Monday it would take its labels Bulgari, Tag Heuer, Hublot and Zenith to Dubai next January for a media and retail show.
Explaining a need to present products to the media and retailers early in the year, executives also pledged loyalty to the Baselworld fair.
“We remain very supportive and loyal to Baselworld and the Swiss watchmaking industry. It was not possible for us to go 13 months without a global presentation of our products and brands,” said Stéphane Bianchi, president of the luxury group’s watch division.
The presentations will take place in the Dubai Bulgari Hotel in January next year.
“This early discovery of our strategies, news and novelties has allowed our media and retail partners to better plan the year ahead and as such we have decide on this set up for 2020 to balance the scheduling of other events,” said Jean-Christophe Babin, chief executive officer at Bulgari.
Marquee trade shows Baselworld and the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie, known as SIHH, shifted their calendars to take place back-to-back, starting in 2020 with SIHH, traditionally held in January in Geneva, moving to April 26 to 29. Baselworld, meanwhile, will take place in Basel from April 30 to May 5. Show organizers want to make it easier for visitors from outside Europe to attend both events.
