Fernandez succeeds current executive vice president and chief commercial officer John Higson, who is retiring in September after 32 years with Avon. Fernandez starts Aug. 14 and will report directly to chief executive officer Sheri McCoy.
As global president, Fernandez will be responsible for commercial business operations.
Fernandez joins Avon from Herbalife Ltd., where he spent almost a decade. There, he worked as executive vice president and managing director for the Americas and worldwide member operations. Before that role he was senior vice president and managing director of Mexico, and vice president of finance and distributor operations.
“I am delighted to welcome an executive of Miguel’s caliber to Avon’s leadership team,” McCoy said in a statement. “Miguel’s expertise in general management, global sales, marketing and operational excellence, will help us accelerate changes in our commercial operations and drive profitable growth.”
Before Herbalife, Fernandez was chief financial officer at OCCMundial and business controller for Microsoft in Mexico. He also worked in investment banking at J.P. Morgan Chase, and in financial management at Procter & Gamble. For Avon, he will be based in London.
