Backstage at Valentino Spring Couture 2012

Models at the couture show sported low ponytails and barely any obvious makeup.

PARIS — Guido Palau fashioned low-slung ponytails for models at the Valentino couture show today. He said backstage the look had a “beautiful, innocent sort of vibe” that’s mixed with a “slight darkness.”

Ditto for makeup artist Pat McGrath’s creation. For that edginess, she drew little squares at the outside corners of models’ eyelids.

“They really wanted the face to be very bare, and for it to be just about that square and that perfected skin,” said McGrath. She noted that brows were lightened slightly.
