Melrose versus Rodeo was the theme backstage at Badgley Mischka this season.
“The Rodeo Drive [look] is a bit more va-va-voom, a bit more volume, and the Melrose is a bit cooler, a bit more laid-back,” said Peter Gray, who oversaw hair for Cutler Salon and Redken. For hair, Gray created two looks, both intended to be an “antidote to that L.A. set that you don’t brush out,” he said. He painted gel onto the hair at the root and then rough blow-dried it, with Redken No 7 Mousse through each section for volume. Hair was curled with a 1.25-inch curling iron and set before being thoroughly brushed out. In the end, the Melrose look was “more collapsed” than the Rodeo-inspired look, Gray said. The look was finished with Redken Wind Blown spray for soft texture.
