Aussie Self-Tanner Bondi Sands a Hit at Ricky’s

The Aussie brand of self-tanner was launched at Ricky's NYC in New York and Miami, and sold out within days.

New Yorkers, who faced a near-record snowfall and bitter cold this winter, are embracing a self-tanner from Australia new to the shelves at Ricky’s NYC.

Bondi Sands made its U.S. debut all Ricky’s New York and Miami Beach stores the week of Jan. 25, just days after Winter Storm Jonas hit the East Coast. During the first three weeks, Ricky’s moved more than $45,000 worth of product and placed a restock order.

“As winter is considered an off-season for self-tanning, these figures are really good, especially as the brand is relatively new to the U.S. market,” said Noa Yeruham, chief executive officer of N2Z Global Group, the North America distributor of Bondi Sands.

Bondi Sands is named after the famed beach in Sydney. The brand’s bestsellers include Liquid Gold, Self-Tanning Dark Foam and Gradual Tanning Milk.

Ricky’s is serving as the launchpad of the brand’s newest item, Liquid Gold, a self-tanning dry oil. Ricky’s will be the exclusive retailer for the first three months the product is on the market.

Launched in 2012, Bondi Sands is the number-one-selling self-tanner in Australia, according to Yeruham. Ricky’s buyer Gina Tolipani discovered the brand via social media. “I had stumbled across Bondi Sands on Instagram quite a few months ago and had decided to try it out. I was instantly amazed by the fast and natural looking results that the Dark Foam had left,” she said. “Ricky’s is well known for being home to some of the hottest and hard to get brands, most of which have a huge following on social media. With the quality and support that Bondi Sands offers, it was pretty much a no-brainer to carry their line.”
