When Dianne Vavra was searching for the perfect red for her new line of trenchcoats, called Le Trench, she didn’t have far to look. Vavra, who is vice president of public relations for Dior Beauty, hit upon the brand’s Dolce Vita–red lipstick as the perfect shade of crimson. Le Trench is a passion project for Vavra, who was inspired by a vintage leopard coat she unearthed in Paris years ago. After receiving countless compliments whenever she wore it, Vavra decided to recreate it. Two years of development ensued, perfecting the cut, the fabric (she insisted it be machine washable) and even the buttons (flat and fabric-covered, rather than the more de rigueur domed-plastic disc), and voilà! Le-Trench.com went live November 1, selling the coats for $495 each. Already, they’ve been snapped up by celebs like Lena Dunham and Sharon Stone. Still, Vavra isn’t ditching her day job. While she’s always hunting for vintage finds, she insists, “It’s the creative and forward-thinking women I work with each day who are my true inspiration.”
