Editor’s Letter: 50 Most Influential People

With this issue, we’ve refreshed the look and feel of much of WWD Beauty Inc.

When we were brainstorming ideas for this issue of WWD Beauty Inc, with our first-ever list of the 50 most influential people in the industry, we knew there was only one person who could be on the cover: Marigay McKee. As anyone who knows her can attest, the former chief merchant of Harrods who became the president of Saks on January 6, is the personification of pure energy. She orchestrated Harrods’ transformation from London’s dowager department store into a chic, buzzy emporium of luxury retailing, and her plans for Saks are equally as bold. (You can read about them in “Talkin’ About a Revolution”.)

McKee also happens to be a self-described “beauty girl” whose passion for the industry hasn’t waned even as she’s added ever-increasing areas of responsibility to her domain. “Beauty is constantly evolving. It doesn’t stand still,” she says. “It’s composed of great people who have great ideas who are constantly driving to see what’s new.” McKee’s words perfectly describe the 50 people we have recognized as the most influential in the industry. Compiled by our editors in the U.S. and Europe, the list represents a cross section of manufacturers, retailers, creatives, finance experts and digital gurus whose intellect and innovations propel beauty forward.
