PARIS — L’Oréal and Image Metrics said jointly that they have entered into a new phase of their partnership regarding the Makeup Genius augmented-reality application by signing an exclusive licensing agreement.
Makeup Genius, which turns the front-facing iPhone and iPad camera into a makeup mirror, was launched in 2014 with technology developed by Image Metrics. The app can monitor a user’s unique facial features and let virtual color cosmetics be applied in real-time to a face’s image.
After almost 20 million users have downloaded Makeup Genius worldwide, L’Oréal and Image Metrics decided to sign the new partnership. Specifically, the license agreement allows for the development of new features, products and functionality related to the Makeup Genius app.
“We share a strategic perspective for what is possible and as we develop even more advanced augmented reality technology it will drive experiences that are increasingly immersive and stunningly real,” stated Ron Ryder, chief executive officer of Image Metrics.
