The Estée Lauder Cos. has named Michael Smith as the company’s senior vice president of global information services and chief information officer. Smith started this role on Aug. 28.
Smith is responsible for managing the company’s technology infrastructure and cybersecurity teams, as well as other IT capabilities. He will be reporting to executive vice president and chief financial officer, Tracey T. Travis.
“Consumer preferences, powered by new technologies, are rapidly changing the beauty industry,” she said. “[Smith’s] forward-thinking approach to technology and commerce combined with his deep expertise in building innovative digital and analytics capabilities will further advance our brands’ growing technology needs and maximize our leadership potential in innovative technology.”
Smith comes to The Estée Lauder Cos. after founding Boma Technologies, a consulting firm that specializes in technology and management for sports, life sciences and technology companies. Prior to this, Smith worked at Nike Inc. for 22 years as a senior director of brand product and marketplace solutions, then senior director of enterprise solutions and technology. Smith is also an advisory board member at Valentine & Cautreels, a health-care company, CausePoint, a technology company and Incture, a software company.
