“A red carpet used to mean people had to show up in a caricature of a movie star and some people still do,” says Dubrof. “But the younger girls know they want to feel the best version of themselves.” That meant fresh makeup and loose, easy hair, as with Cameron Diaz’s spunky fuchsia mouth, the perfect counterpart to her pink Chanel gown, Gwyneth Paltrow’s shimmering eyes and Jennifer Aniston’s simple braid. “These are chic girls who dress appropriately for events and exude confidence without having to do too much,” says Abergel, who coiffed Jessica Biel for the Oscars. “Less is always more.”
