Joico, whose brands include Joico, I.C.E. Hair, Vero and Triactive, will become part of Zotos International, Shiseido’s American professional hair care subsidiary. Zotos, based in Darien, Conn., has sales of $25 million. Joico’s annual volume is $1.9 million. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This would be Shiseido’s third salon acquisition in five years. Since buying Zotos in 1988, the company added Helene Curtis’s North American professional division in 1996 and the salon division of Lamaur Corp. in 1998.
The U.S. professional hair care market is estimated at $2 billion and has been growing at a rate of 4 percent a year, according to Shiseido.
