BEAUTY QUEEN: Sharmadean Reid, founder of London-based Wah Nails, was named a Member of the Order of the British Empire, or MBE, in Queen Elizabeth II’s annual Birthday Honors list, for services to the nail and beauty industry.

Reid, 31, started Wah Nails as a salon in East London in 2009, and it quickly gained a following for its exuberant, arty approach. Reid went on to open an outpost in Topshop’s flagship on London’s Oxford Street and last year launched a line of nail art products with beauty and health chain Boots in the U.K.

Another fashion name made an MBE on Friday as part of this year’s list was Jennifer Claire Griffiths, chief executive officer of the Snap Fashion app, for services to digital innovation in the fashion industry. The app launched in 2012 as a pictorial search engine, to help users find similar fashion items to those they have seen online or taken pictures of, with the app searching more than 250 retailers’ sites.
