Ambi, a skin care line designed for women of color, will launch a CC cream in March. Known for its cleansers and moisturizers, Ambi Even & Clear CC+ Cream Even Tone Environmental Shield will be a first for the mass-market brand in the skin care-meets-color-cosmetics category. “We firmly believe that women of color should be able to participate in the latest beauty trends with affordable, quality products,” said Tricia Green, senior brand manager at Valeant Pharmaceuticals, Ambi’s parent company.

Ambi is taking advantage of the absence of deep shades in the BB, CC and DD category, especially in the mass-market. The deepest BB and CC cream hues available in many drugstore brands, like Almay and Garnier, for example, are often still too fair to accommodate the medium to dark skin tones of women of color. “Women of color have a wide range of beautiful hues, and it was important to develop shades that match as many of these hues as possible,” said Green. “We  wanted to achieve this in just two shades and are very happy with how many women can use our final [product].” The CC cream is available in Light/Medium and Medium/Dark and retails for $8.99.

In line with other products in the category, Even & Clear CC+ Cream Even Tone Environmental Shield is said to have multiple skin care benefits. For example, argan oil and shea butter moisturize. Also, it features SPF 30 and a “soft focus technology” that is said to blur imperfections.  Though Ambi declined to disclose sales numbers, industry sources estimate Even & Clear CC+ Cream Even Tone Environmental will generate $1 million in retail sales during its first year on counter.
