Jill Scalamandre, who recently left a key post at Coty Inc., has become Shiseido’s new makeup queen.

She will begin work on July 21 as the president of the newly established Global Makeup Center of Excellence, located in the company’s New York headquarters. She will be on a mission to expand the footprint of the color cosmetics business across the company’s brands, including Shiseido, Bare Escentuals, Francois Nars, Cle de Peau Beaute and Buxom, a Shiseido brand sold in Sephora. This is one of three centers, with the others located in Paris and Tokyo, and  each focusing on a separate product categories and charged with global authority. The Paris center is in charge of developing fragrance, while the home office in Tokyo oversees skin-care development.

In New York, Scalamandre will report to Marc Rey, president and chief executive officer of Shiseido Americas. At Coty, Scalamandre served as chief marketing officer of skin care and senior vice president of the Philosophy brand. Scalamandre said she will leverage the talent within Shiseido while pursuing her mission of “growing the footprint in the category” through both existing and new brands. “There will be more brands of color,” she said adding that she also intends to accelerate the pace of development.

Prior to joining Coty, Scalamandre served as chief marketing officer at Chrysallis Inc., senior vice president of global beauty brands at Avon Products Inc.and managing director of Prada Beauty. She began her career at Revlon.
