PARIS — Peter Philips has been named creative and image director of Christian Dior makeup, the company said Monday.
His appointment is effective immediately.
Tyen, who formerly created colors for the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned brand’s makeup, will remain within the group as artistic advisor, a spokeswoman said.
Philips had most recently been freelancing, spotted working backstage at such high-profile fashion shows as Dries Van Noten and Fendi this past women’s ready-to-wear season. He will spearhead the makeup look for upcoming Dior fashion shows, which had previously been overseen by Pat McGrath.
Between 2008 and 2013, Philips served as global creative director for makeup at Chanel. Very quickly after his arrival at the house, he masterminded a slew of blockbusters, including a limited-edition collection of nail lacquers in luscious hues and the Lèvres Signées Chanel palette.
Philips earned his stripes creating high-concept makeup looks for fashion magazines and runway shows. His portfolio reads like a Who’s Who of fashion, including shoots with photographers such as Irving Penn, David Sims and Mario Testino. Philip’s work has appeared in magazines like French, Italian and American Vogue, W and Prop.

A self-taught makeup artist, Philips graduated from Antwerp’s prestigious Académie des Beaux Arts.
“His talent and his unique and modern vision of beauty are recognized around the world,” Claude Martinez, president and chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, said in a statement.
“I am honored by the responsibilities that are entrusted to me by Christian Dior makeup, whose values, savoir-faire and innovation I respect,” stated Philips.
