François Nars has named French fashion photographer Sarah Moon as his collaborator in his limited-edition holiday offering. As with the Nars’ founder and creative director’s previous collaborations — which have included last year’s Steven Klein collection as well as previous partnerships with Guy Bourdin and Andy Warhol — he will work closely with Moon on the 25 stockkeeping unit collection, due in November.
Nars describes the overall feeling of the collection as “a metropolis of modern femininity through delicate, ethereal imagery and products.”
The range will showcase fresh packaging with a play on frost and translucency as well as new, innovative product formulas and shades, he added.
“Sarah is a poet, a sculptor, a painter. I have always been fascinated by her work for so many years. I love her vision of beauty, her sensibility, extreme perfectionism and refinement. Watching her taking pictures was a great lesson of life,” Nars said.
Moon began her career as a prominent fashion model in the Sixties, but like Nars, her creativity and curiosity drew her to the other side of the camera. Her romantic, often dreamlike photography has been featured in exhibitions in Kyoto, Japan, Paris and New York, as well as in major fashion campaigns for Chanel, Dior and Comme des Garçons.

“There is great trust, respect and mutual admiration between us, it made it lovely to work together,” Moon said. “Also, he’s a photographer so he knows how fragile the process is. From the beginning to the end, it was a true collaboration.”
