Saks Fifth Avenue’s fifth floor customers are about to get inundated with designer fragrances. At least at the retailer’s Fifth Avenue flagship.
On Thursday, Saks opened its Fragrance Library, a permanent concept shop featuring an installation that offers an array of designer scents.
“We looked at nationally ranked brands that are highly advertised,” said Kate Oldham, senior vice president of cosmetics, fragrance, swim and lingerie at Saks, noting the criteria necessary to be sold in the library. “If there’s [a new fragrance then] we’ll bring that in. If something isn’t working [then] we’ll take that out.”
The 450-square-foot library, which combines a white-on-white palette with bookshelves and ladders, will be stacked with 50 scents, including Armani’s Sí, Estée Lauder’s Modern Muse and Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle, among others. Also, a sales associate, or “fragrance librarian,” will be stationed at the installation to assist customers in finding a scent that best fits their style. Additionally, a mobile gift station will offer gift-wrapping services.
“Some customers don’t come in our front doors and may not see [the fragrance floor],” said Oldham. “[Now] they can see it throughout the store when they come shopping here. The haute perfumery [on the first floor] is very special. It’s not libraries of fragrances, it’s lifestyle. So up here it’s a little bit of a broader collection. They complement each other.”
