The 24-year-old English- French Martin, who spent a chunk of her childhood in Japan, is best known for her breakout role in Lars von Trier’s “Nymphomaniac,” in which she played Young Joe, the teenage version of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s libidinous character. She is set to make an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival Thursday to help introduce Matteo Garrone’s “Tale of Tales,” which also stars Salma Hayek and Vincent Cassel.
Martin was a model before she turned to acting, and Prada is said to appreciate her blend of audaciousness — in her first big role, in a sex-filled movie, Martin had to wear a prosthetic vagina — and class.
“What I like about Miu Miu is the relationship the brand has with cinema and art. They commission short films made by women, sup- port artists and always find new ways to mix fashion with other spheres, making clothes part of the story,” Martin told WWD, noting, “It’s what I like best about fashion.”

Martin’s future goals include working with directors such as Jacques Audiard and Quentin Taran- tino: “The more damaged and human a character is, the more it interests me,” she said.
The actress also said her international upbringing had taught her to be more open-minded and adven- turesome. “I’m only starting to realize that now,” she admitted, adding, “I think it was James Joyce who said that mistakes were doors to discovery. I think there’s a lot of truth in that.”
