Trend: Hot Tools

As consumers continue to embrace their natural hair texture, they are becoming savvier to the effects of overprocessing strands. Preserving hair is key — a Mintel study said 53 percent of respondents are interested in antiaging hair products, particularly those that address hair loss. Makers of hair tools are responding with innovative technology and products that promise to make heat-styling faster and less damaging. Dyson, known for its bagless vacuums, seized the opportunity to enter the mix this year with the launch of its Supersonic hair dryer that measures air temperature every 20 seconds. “Consumers are looking for efficient, minimally invasive devices,” said NPD’s Karen Grant. “It’s about prevention and maintenance.”
