Amorepacific’s New Mask Works the Night Shift

Rare ingredients and aromatherapy intersect for skin care that also encourages relaxation.

Among the pages in this year’s edition of the Neiman Marcus Christmas Book is a $1.5 million rose gold private plane, his-and-hers Lilly Pulitzer golf carts priced at $65,000 each and Amorepacific’s latest, an overnight mask tagged at $200 for 1.7 ounces.

The Time Response Skin Renewal Sleeping Masque was formally revealed last week at the Lightbox, an event space in midtown Manhattan. To reinforce the connection with skin care that works while sleeping, attendees were able to experience nap pods made famous by companies such as Google for power naps.

Karen Housman, who joined Amorepacific last year as vice president of marketing from Chanel, noted that Amorepacific has paced the explosion of Korean beauty in the U.S.

“At the core of the Amorepacific brand, the Advanced Time Response Collection uses the highest concentrations of the brand’s world-renowned, patented green tea ingredients to provide superior antiaging results on the surface, epidermis and dermis,” said Housman. “Our Time Response Skin Renewal Sleeping Masque is the ultimate luxurious addition to the collection. With the mask category on the rise, our latest launch offers users supreme relaxation while revitalizing skin overnight with superior technology.”

A hero ingredient is from a green tea root discovered on the brand’s garden on Jeju Island. It is said to help make skin smoother, firmer, more hydrated and glowing.

An added benefit is aromatherapy. “Our SleepScent formula is enriched with a five-flower oil comprised of rose, bergamot, neroli, ylang-ylang and sandalwood to encourage relaxation and sleep,” she said.

Sleep expert Rebecca S. Robbins was on hand supporting the message that night is crucial for skin renewal. She explained that sleep deprivation causes the skin’s biorhythm to break down, thereby lowering functions and accelerating aging. “Skin’s ‘golden time,’ which is between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m., is an important time for nourishing and rejuvenating cells where sound sleep becomes a crucial element. Collagen production also increases at night,” Robbins said.
