L’Oréal Granted Business License for Episkin in China

The reconstructed skin is an alternative method to animal testing.

PARIS — L’Oréal said Monday it has been granted a business license in China to market Episkin reconstructed skin models through Shanghai Episkin Biotechnology Ltd.

Episkin is human epidermis model reconstructed from Asian keratinocytes. L’Oréal said it is “essential for the validation of alternative methods to animal testing for cosmetic products and ingredients.”

L’Oréal Advanced Research laboratories in China produces the Chinese Episkin model.

The French beauty giant began manufacturing reconstructed Asian skin in China in 2008.
