It was an airline meal that served as the inspiration for Dr. Conny Wittke to create a new line of beauty masks she named Nügg.

“I had jelly from jelly pods for breakfast, my skin was dry, tired and acting up with nothing good enough to treat it, and on the flight back, all the pieces connected and Nügg, which is short for nuggets of goodness for your skin, was born,” said the founder and chief executive officer of Nügg.

In just one year, Nügg’s growth has taken flight, including three new launches. Two of the new items are currently shipping to about 1,000 Target doors (and will be sold on target.com). One of Nügg’s introductions, the De-Stress Face Mask, debuted in the January Birchbox. All three will be available on nuggbeauty.com.

The De-Stress Face Mask retails for $3.29 and features a blend of acai berry, goji berry extracts, coconut oil, evening primrose seed oil and aloe juice. The new item joins Nügg’s portfolio of facial masks including antiaging, deep-cleansing, exfoliating, hydrating, revitalizing and soothing options.

Nügg’s two other debuts, currently shipping to Target, extend the brand into eye and lip. Retailing for $7.99, the Lip Mask incorporates coconut oil, Irish moss extract, shea butter and licorice root complex. The De-Puff Eye Mask features six eye gel masks in unit dose stick packs retailing for $14.99. Among the ingredients are caffeine, hesperidin, allantonin, vitamin B5 and bisabolol. Wittke, the former president and chief executive officer of Tweezerman International, is credited with propelling the distribution of Tweezerman by building upon its quality manufacturing teamed with product innovation. She saw similar needs in the booming beauty mask market for affordable and convenient options. Because the packaging is portion-sized, Wittke said consumers can easily select formulas to tailor to changing skin conditions. The packaging isn’t the only defining feature, she said, pointing to the product creation. “We manufacture with Natural Oil Dispersion Technology that uses physics instead of chemistry to blend oil and water, which avoids the use of chemical emulsifiers that can impair your natural skin barrier function. All our masks are formulated with [greater] than 90 percent natural or naturally derived ingredients and without petrochemicals, parabens, synthetic fragrances and synthetic colors,” she said.
