Affluent U.S. consumers plan to increase their holiday spending by 2 percent to close to $1,850 this year, with $1,100 of that going toward gifts, according to the Forbes Affluent Consumer Tracker.

That puts holiday spending by affluent consumers 5 percent above 2009 levels.

The tracker, which was put together by Big Research and Forbes Insights, surveyed more than 8,500 U.S. adults in October and focused on 841 consumers with household incomes greater than $100,000.

The affluent consumers surveyed said they would spend $742 on gifts for family and loved ones, more than $100 on holiday decorations and $156 on special seasonal foods.

About half of affluent consumers plan to do their holiday shopping online.
