NEW YORK — Fairchild Publications is pleased to announce that Aileen Mehle, WWD’s society columnist, has been named contributing social editor of W.

In her new role, Mrs. Mehle has decided to no longer write her Suzy column, but instead will be writing longer features on society, fashion, Hollywood, and other subjects for W, WWD’s sister publication.

“She is the wittiest, brightest writer I know and we are happy she has decided she wants to write longer pieces for us,” said Patrick McCarthy, Fairchild’s chairman and editorial director. “As much as we will miss the twice-weekly column, we can’t help but be excited by the talent and originality she will bring to her features.”

Mrs. Mehle has written the Suzy column for WWD and W for 14 years and it has become one of the most important and entertaining features in both publications. Before she began writing for Fairchild, she established herself as America’s premier society writer by penning the Suzy column for such major newspapers as The New York Post and the New York Daily News, and was syndicated in more than 100 other newspapers.

She will continue to write her longer articles under the Suzy byline. Today’s column will be her last in the present format.
