Asian markets ended slightly lower after China released first-quarter gross domestic product growth in line with expectations but showing the slowest growth in seven years. Investors pulled back after two straight days of market rallies.
The Shanghai SSE inched down 0.14 percent to end at 3,078, while Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 slipped 0.37 percent to 16,848. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed down 0.10 percent to finish at 21,316.
Chow Tai Fook gained 0.8 percent to end at 5.39 Hong Kong dollars while Esprit rose 0.7 to finish 7.05 Hong Kong dollars. Shiseido rose 0.4 percent to end at 2,527 yen.
