Asian indices put in a mixed performance Thursday.

Shanghai’s market widened its losses through the session to end the day down 2.9 percent. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 shed a more modest 0.7 percent while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was inching up 0.8 percent in late-day trade.

Higher crude oil did little to cheer investors on Wall Street on Wednesday as a statement from the Federal Reserve signaled caution over the direction of the global economy.

Ongoing stock market turbulence in China is prompting concern about the health of the country’s economy.
