Asian shares held steady Wednesday after investors digested news of the previous day’s terrorist attacks in Brussels.

Asian indices were nearly flat at the end of the session. Shanghai’s SSE finished up 0.4 percent at 3,010 while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.3 percent to close at 20,615. Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 also lost 0.3 percent to finish at 17,001.

Wall Street put in a similarly flat performance on Tuesday. The terrorist attacks at Brussels’ airport and a metro station in the city center are likely to dent tourism and retail in Europe.

Fast Retailing grew 3.1 percent to end at 36,760 yen while Shiseido rose 0.6 percent to end at 2,510 yen. Chow Tai Fook edged down 0.6 percent to finish at 4.81 Hong Kong dollars. Esprit rose 0.99 percent to close at 7.11 Hong Kong dollars. Global Brands was flat at 0.94 Hong Kong dollars.
