EBay plans to up its stake in GittiGidiyor, an Istanbul-based online marketplace with more than 6.4 million users.
The online auction giant bought a minority share of the company in 2007 and will boost its stake to 93 percent once the deal closes, which is anticipated in the second quarter.
Launched in 2001, GittiGidiyor has more than 150 employees. The Web site sells goods at fixed prices. Fashion and consumer electronics are its largest categories.
“There is a lot that we can learn from GittiGidiyor, and much we can share,” said Doug McCallum, senior vice president for eBay in Europe.
