LONDON — Europe’s major markets were in retreat in mid-morning trading on Thursday, with the exception of the FTSE 100 in London, which was up 0.2 percent to 7,482.98.
The DAX in Frankfurt and the FTSE MIB in Milan were both down 0.2 percent to 12,941.89 and 22,406.29, respectively. The CAC 40 in Paris dipped 0.1 percent to 5,359.98.
The euro traded at $1.18, while the pound fetched $1.33 and the Swiss franc equaled $1.03 at 12:45 p.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were uneven, with the morning’s biggest risers including Tesco, up 2.1 percent to 1.88 pounds; Debenhams, 1.6 percent to 0.47 pounds, and Koovs.com, 3.9 percent to 0.27 pounds.
Stocks that lost the most ground included MySale Group, down 2.7 percent to 1.13 pounds, and Geox, 1.1 percent to 3.55 euros.
