LONDON — European stock markets were uneven in mid-morning trading on Friday, while retail and luxury stocks were mostly down ahead of the Christmas holiday weekend.
The FTSE MIB in Milan climbed 0.8 percent to 19,267.60 followed by the CAC 40 in Paris, which was up 0.1 percent to 4,839.07. The FTSE 100 in London was broadly flat at 7,061.05, while the DAX in Frankfurt dipped 0.1 percent to 11,456.10.
The euro traded at $1.04, while the pound fetched $1.23, and the Swiss franc equaled $0.98 at 9:25 am CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, including Jimmy Choo, 1.2 percent to 1.40 pounds; Gemfields, 1.9 percent to 0.53 pounds; Aeffe, 2 percent to 1.02 euros, and Koovs.com, 7.6 percent to 0.49 pounds.
Among the few stocks that gained substantial ground were Safilo Group, 1.5 percent to 8.02 euros, and Ted Baker, 2.2 percent to 28.39 pounds.
