LONDON — European stock markets made modest gains in midmorning trading on Monday, with the FSTE 100 the only index to lose ground.
The London market was down 0.2 percent to 6,401.61. The DAX in Frankfurt, meanwhile, climbed 0.8 percent to 10,174.21; the CAC 40 in Paris, 0.2 percent to 4,710.24, and the FTSE MIB in Milan, 0.1 percent to 22,268.30.
The euro traded at $1.14, while the pound fetched $1.53, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.04 at 10:00 am CET.
Retail and luxury stocks put on an uneven show, with the morning’s biggest gainers including MySale Group, 1.9 percent to 0.56 pounds; Geox, 4.2 percent to 4.03 euros, and Italia Independent Group, 1.7 percent to 30.03 euros.
Among the stocks that lost the most ground were Yoox Net-a-porter Group, 1.7 percent to 29.11 euros; Gemfields, 1.9 percent to 0.51 pounds; Beiersdorf AG, 1.6 percent to 80.89 euros, and Mulberry Group, 1 percent to 9.00 pounds.
