LONDON — European stock markets were broadly flat in mid-morning trading on Monday.
The CAC 40 in Paris edged down 0.2 percent to 4,262.56, while the other three major European markets made modest gains.
The FTSE 100 in London and the DAX in Frankfurt were both up 0.1 percent, to 6,725.79 and to 8,997.58 respectively, while the FTSE MIB in Milan advanced 0.5 percent to 18,973.69.
The euro traded at $1.38, while the pound fetched $1.62, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.12 at 10:55 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly up, with the morning’s biggest gainers including French Connection, up 12 percent to 0.42 pounds; Asos.com, 3.9 percent to 53.06 pounds; Brunello Cucinelli, 2.8 percent to 22.97 euros; and Ferragamo, 1.7 percent to 25 euros.
Among the few stocks that lost ground in mid-morning were Burberry Group plc, 1.2 percent to 15.29 pounds; Debenhams, 2.7 percent to 0.98 pounds; and Yoox.com, 1.7 percent to 24.17 euros.
