LONDON — Most European stock markets were down in morning trading on Wednesday.
The DAX in Frankfurt declined 0.2 percent to 12.642,55. The FTSE MIB in Milan and the CAC 40 in Paris each retreated 0.1 percent, to 5,341.48 and to 21,391.60, respectively. The FTSE 100 in London was the only market to gain ground, climbing 0.1 percent to 7,494.29.
The euro traded at $1.12, while the pound fetched $1.29 at 9:30 a.m. CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly in decline, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Hugo Boss, down 3.5 percent to 65.28 euros; Salvatore Ferragamo, 1.7 percent to 27.84 euros, and Mulberry, 1.4 percent to 10.69 pounds.
Among the morning’s biggest risers was Gemfields, up 2.4 percent to 0.37 pounds. Meanwhile, Boohoo.com advanced 2 percent, to 2.04 pounds, and Burberry Group gained 0.8 percent to 17.55 pounds.
