LONDON — Europe’s stock markets were in retreat in mid-morning trading on Thursday, with the exception of the FTSE MIB in Milan, which climbed 0.5 percent to 19,313.85.

The other major markets, London’s FTSE 100, Paris’ CAC 40 and the DAX in Frankfurt, were all down 0.1 percent to 7,035.27; 4,831.20, and 11,457.84 respectively.

The euro traded at $1.04, while the pound fetched $1.24, and the Swiss franc equaled 0.97 at 10:00 am CET.

Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Tesco, 1.6 percent to 2.01 pounds; Italia Independent Group, 5.3 percent to 6.14 euros; Aeffe, 1.7 percent to 1.02 euros, and Koovs.com, 7.2 percent to 0.49 pounds.

Among the few stocks to gain substantial ground were MySale Group, 2.1 percent to 1.12 pounds; Jimmy Choo, 1.6 percent to 1.41 pounds, and Zalando, 1.4 percent to 36.25 euros.
