LONDON — European stock markets were down in mid-morning trading on Friday, with the FTSE MIB in Milan leading the way.
The Italian market fell 1.2 percent to 21,160.36, followed by the DAX in Frankfurt, 1 percent to 10,496.74. The CAC 40 in Paris was down 0.8 percent to 4,596.50, while the FTSE 100 in London sank 0.6 percent to 6,049.31.
The euro traded at $1.10, while the pound fetched $1.52, and the Swiss franc equaled $1.01 at 11:50 am CET.
Retail and luxury stocks were mostly down, with the morning’s biggest fallers including Italia Independent, 4.7 percent to 27.25 euros; Hugo Boss, 2.7 percent to 75.75 euros; Metro AG and Salvatore Ferragamo, 2.6 percent to 26.88 euros and 21.77 euros, respectively; and Adidas, 1.5 percent to 86.28 euros.
Among the few stocks that gained ground were Inditex, which rose 0.9 percent to 32.38 euros.
